Imam Khomeini International Airport in Tehran is the largest airport in Iran and the main gateway to the country. The airport is located 40 kilometers south of the city and is set to become a major airport city in the future, acting as a dry port in the country’s economic center. The airport is planned to be the largest air cargo facility in the Middle East, with the potential to be the second-largest passenger hub after Dubai. Currently, the airport has two terminals with a capacity of 14 million passengers a year, along with a 4,000-meter runway, taxiway, and aircraft parking facilities. Additionally, the airport offers daily flights to regional destinations such as Dubai, Istanbul, and Yerevan, as well as long-distance flights to Shanghai, Frankfurt, and London. It’s worth noting that the airport is currently undergoing heavy construction to accommodate its expansion. Mehrabad  int. Airport is an older international airport located near Tehran that has been in operation for over 70 years. Before the establishment of the Imam Khomeini airport, Mehrabad was the main air hub in Iran and Tehran. Today, the airport has two runways, each 4200 meters long and 60 meters wide, along with six passenger terminals and cargo facilities. Mehrabad is the only airport in Iran with daily flights to domestic destinations, and you can access it using Tehran metro line 4 or taking a taxi.
