Riyadh is poised to introduce self-driving taxis as part of Saudi Arabia’s broader initiative to modernize its transportation infrastructure and embrace smart mobility solutions. Dr. Omaimah Bamasag, Deputy of Transport Enablement at the Transport General Authority (TGA), announced the forthcoming launch during the UJ 2025 Artificial Intelligence Conference in Jeddah. According to Gulf News, She emphasized that this move represents a significant step toward a smart and sustainable future in the transportation sector .
Riyadh is among five cities designated as “self-driving friendly,” equipped with the necessary digital and physical infrastructure to support autonomous vehicles, including cars, taxis, trucks, and drones. To oversee this transformation, the TGA has established the Future Mobility Committee, which is managing 120 projects focused on modernizing transport nationwide, with 16 specifically targeting the integration of artificial intelligence in smart mobility solutions .
